What it does
- Drop in MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC or M4A (AAC and ALAC) files or whole folders, connect a Rekordbox 6 or 7 library and pick the collection or a few playlists, or choose a USB drive you exported to.
- Choose a target loudness from −14 to −3 LUFS; −9 LUFS is marked as recommended. Trimify measures each track's loudness and true peak, then shows the gain it applies.
- Every leveled file keeps its source's format, tags and cover art. Your originals are never edited, unless you choose Rekordbox's Replace files mode.
- Optional clipping protection or a peak limiter stop loud tracks from clipping. Both are off by default.
- The Guide in the app's header explains loudness, true peak, clipping, formats and each Rekordbox mode in plain language, and the ? beside each setting opens the chapter about it.
- Everything happens on your computer. There's no account and no analytics, and Trimify doesn't send your files or library anywhere.
Install
Windows 10 and 11
- Run the downloaded
Trimify_…_x64-setup.exe, and choose whether to install it for just you or for everyone on the computer. - The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may show Windows protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
- Open Trimify from the Start menu.
The MSI is for managed installs: msiexec /i Trimify_…_x64_en-US.msi.
macOS
- Download the disk image for your Mac: Apple Silicon for M1 and newer, Intel for older Macs. Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac.
- Open it, drag Trimify into Applications, then eject the disk image.
- Trimify isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open it once and click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- If macOS says Trimify "is damaged and can't be opened", run this in Terminal and open it again:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Trimify.appLinux
- AppImage (any distribution):
chmod +x Trimify_*_amd64.AppImage, then run it. It includes everything, Rekordbox and USB support too. - Arch:
sudo pacman -U trimify-*-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst. It uses the system's FFmpeg and levels files you drop in; use the AppImage for Rekordbox libraries and USB drives. - Debian, Ubuntu or Fedora packages, when your download page lists them:
sudo apt install ./Trimify_*_amd64.deborsudo dnf install ./Trimify-*.x86_64.rpm.
Trimify checks the audio tools it uses when it starts, and tells you if anything is missing. Each download lists its SHA-256 checksum, so you can check the file before you open it.
Updates
Trimify 1.0.3 and later look for a new version each time they open. When one is out, a banner shows its release notes, and Update & Restart installs it, keeping your settings, backups and leveled files. Every update is signed, and Trimify checks the signature before installing anything.
- Turn the check off, or check by hand with Check Now, in About & legal.
- The Arch package, and a Mac copy run from the disk image or Downloads instead of Applications, can't replace themselves: they tell you a new version is out, and you install it as you did the first.
- On a Mac, macOS may ask again for access to folders and drives after an update. On Windows, an install for everyone on the computer asks for administrator permission to update.
- Versions before 1.0.3 can't update themselves; install the current version once by hand.
Before you use it with Rekordbox
Close Rekordbox before Trimify writes to it, and keep it closed until Trimify finishes. Trimify makes and verifies its own backup of the library in the backup folder you choose, but keep one of your own too: copy Rekordbox's whole data folder somewhere safe.
- The trimified folder (default). Leveled copies go into a top-level
trimifiedplaylist folder that mirrors the playlists they came from. Copies keep the source's beatgrid, hot cues, memory cues, My Tags, artwork and analysis, and their auto gain allows for the gain Trimify applied. Your original tracks and playlists aren't changed. An optional title prefix, such as[T], makes copies easy to spot on the decks. - Switch to leveled files. Your existing tracks play the leveled files instead; the originals stay where they are.
- Replace files. Each original is replaced by its leveled version, after a verified backup, and its library entry is updated to match.
- Undoing it. Delete the
trimifiedfolder and its copies in Rekordbox. For Switch and Replace runs, Restore Backup in the Rekordbox panel puts each track back as it was. - Trying it safely. Copy the Rekordbox data folder somewhere else, then choose that copy's library in Trimify.
USB drives
Switch the source to USB drive to level a drive Rekordbox exported to. Trimify finds exports on connected drives, including ones formatted on a Mac, and offers two ways:
- Level on the drive (default): the drive's own files are leveled and replaced in place, each after a verified backup.
- Copy from PC library: the leveled files your library already has are copied over the drive's, so nothing is processed twice.
Either way each file keeps its name and place, so playlists, cues and beatgrids carry on, and Restore Backup puts a drive back too. Switch and Replace runs change the tracks on your computer only; copy them to a drive you exported earlier with Copy from PC library.
Known limitations
Read these before a gig
- Timing of lossy copies. WAV, AIFF, FLAC and ALAC copies are sample-aligned with their sources, so cues and grids line up exactly. MP3 and AAC are re-encoded to start where Rekordbox plays the original; MP3s leveled with 1.0.2 or earlier could sit up to 26 ms off, so level those again. Spot-check cues on a few lossy tracks.
- Waveform height. Leveled tracks keep their waveform previews, which show the level before leveling until Rekordbox re-analyses the track.
- Seek data. Leveled tracks have their FLAC seek index, variable-bitrate MP3 seek table and cue seek positions cleared, which is how Rekordbox treats tracks analysed by older versions.
- Duplicates. Copies share their sources' metadata, so the Collection and any smart playlists show both versions; the trimified folder holds only the leveled ones.
- Mirroring scope. Processing the whole collection mirrors regular playlists. Smart playlists are mirrored, as ordinary playlists, only when you select them.
- Not copied: Active Censor edits and hot cue bank lists.
- Limiter readings. The limiter aims under −1 dBTP, but some true-peak meters can read up to about 0.25 dB higher on music, and MP3 or AAC encoding adds a small overshoot on top.
