Every track. Same loudness.

Trimify levels your music to one target loudness, so your sets stop jumping in volume. For Rekordbox, it adds leveled copies to a trimified playlist folder with your beatgrids, hot cues and memory cues intact.

The difference

Stop riding the gain between tracks

Tracks are mastered at wildly different levels, so a set lurches from quiet to loud and back again. Trimify measures each one and brings it to the same loudness, so the mix is about the music, not the trim knob.

Features

Everything it takes to play at one level

Built for DJs who care about their library: careful with your files, clear about what it changes, and quick to undo.

  • One target, every track

Pick a loudness between −14 and −3 LUFS (−9 is the recommended level). Trimify measures each track's loudness and true peak, then shows you exactly how much gain it applies.

  • Same format out as in

MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and M4A (AAC and ALAC). Every leveled file keeps its source's format, tags and cover art, at its bitrate or bit depth.

  • Made for Rekordbox

Connect a Rekordbox 6 or 7 library and level the whole collection or just a few playlists. Leveled copies keep their beatgrids, hot cues and memory cues.

  • USB drives too

Level the tracks on a drive you exported to, right where they are, or copy over the leveled files your library already has. Playlists and cues carry on.

  • Clipping under control

Optional clipping protection, or a peak limiter that keeps tracks at the target while holding their peaks down. Both are off until you want them.

  • Backed up, and undoable

Every Rekordbox run backs up your library first, and Restore Backup puts tracks back the way they were. Your originals are never edited unless you ask.

  • Stays on your computer

No account, no analytics. Your music and your library never leave your machine.

  • Explains itself

A built-in guide covers loudness, true peak, clipping and limiting in plain language, with interactive diagrams, and a quick tour shows you round the window.

  • Keeps itself current

Trimify tells you when there's a new version and installs it with one click. Every update is signed and checked before it installs.

The guide

See what happens to the sound

Trimify explains itself with interactive diagrams in its built-in guide. Here are three of them: move the sliders and switch the modes.

Loudness, not just level

LUFS measures how loud a track sounds over its whole length, the way your ears judge it, rather than how high its peaks reach. Two tracks with the same peaks can be several LUFS apart.

Trimify measures each track and applies exactly the gain that brings it to your target, so the loudness spread across a set drops to zero. Drag the target, then level the tracks.

How it works

Three steps to an even set

No settings to learn first. The defaults are the ones most DJs want, and the built-in guide explains every option in plain language.

  1. 1

    Choose your music

Drop in files or whole folders, connect your Rekordbox library and pick the collection or a few playlists, or plug in a USB drive you exported to.

  2. 2

    Set the target

Slide to the loudness you want your set at. −9 LUFS is marked as recommended, and leaves headroom for most tracks.

    Level and play

Trimify measures every track, shows the gain it applies, and writes leveled files in the same format. Rekordbox gets its copies in a trimified folder, ready to play.

Your music stays on your computer.

Trimify does all of its work on your machine. It doesn't upload your tracks, read your library for anyone else, or phone home with what you play.

  • No account, no sign-in
  • No analytics or tracking
  • Your files and library never leave your computer
  • Update checks can be turned off

FAQ

Questions DJs ask

Is Trimify really free?
Yes. There's no paid edition, no trial and no account. Trimify is free software under the MIT licence.
Will it change my original files?
No. Trimify writes leveled copies and leaves your originals alone. The one exception is Rekordbox's Replace files mode, which you have to choose, and which backs every file up first.
Do my beatgrids and cues survive?
Yes. Leveled copies in the trimified folder keep their source's beatgrid, hot cues, memory cues, My Tags, artwork and analysis, and lossless copies line up sample for sample. Lossy formats are re-encoded to start where Rekordbox expects; spot-check a few cues before a gig, as you would with any new files.
What loudness should I choose?
Start with −9 LUFS, the recommended level: it leaves headroom for most tracks, so few need their peaks held down. Go quieter if you play dynamic music and want more headroom, or louder if most of your library is heavily mastered.
How is this different from auto gain?
Auto gain is a playback adjustment that only software and players reading your Rekordbox library apply. Trimify levels the files themselves, so they play at the same loudness anywhere, and you can see exactly what changed. For Rekordbox copies it adjusts their auto gain to match, so the two don't fight.
Does it send my music anywhere?
No. Everything happens on your computer, with no account and no analytics. The only thing Trimify asks the internet is whether a new version is out, and you can turn that off.
Why do I need a personal link?
It keeps downloads coming straight from me, as the official build, rather than from copies passed around. Your link works for 72 hours and 3 downloads; if it runs out, comment TRIMIFY on the reel again once it has expired. Once Trimify is installed, it updates itself.
Why does my computer warn me when I install it?
Trimify isn't code-signed or notarised yet, so Windows and macOS ask before opening it the first time. The install guides show the clicks, and each download lists a checksum so you can check the file is the one I published.
Something isn't working. Who do I ask?
Me. Reply in the Instagram chat or email trimify@life-of-dan.dev.
